Amanwana Resort Indonesia

By Chris Linch

In 1993 Amanwana Resort discovered a prime location the Indonesian island of Moyo, off the coast of Sumbawa to the east of Bali. The ambiance of camp life is subtly incorporated into luxurious tents, designed with style and substance on a coral-stone deck. The tents feature windows framed in teak with polished hardwood flooring and decorated in naturally soft colors such as creams, beige, wheat and honey.

Diving and snorkeling is readily accessible, from either the jetty or the camps own boats. Enjoy a spectacular world of fascinating sea life: giant turtles, blue sea stars, barrel sponges, coral reefsand throughout it all darts a rainbow of tropical fish. On land you may spot macaque monkeys, deer or wild boar. Bird life includes Eagles and Osprey. The island is a nature preserve and walks into the jungle are part of the experience.

The camp offers 20 tents under a canopy of tropical trees. These luxurious accommodations are fully air-conditioned, with solid walls, a soft waterproof roof, and canvas interior. Each tent has a bed, writing desk, a large bath, and hardwood floors. A coral stone deck surrounds each tent. Sand paths between the tents lead to the common areas and dining facilities.

Dine on Asian or Western cuisines in an open air pavilion with views of the sea. The resort offers dinner cruises, barbeques and campfire dinners in season.

The camp has a Diving Center that can provide diving equipment and excursions. Other water sports equipment and Hobie cats can be rented on the Boardwalk. Beach chairs and snacks are also available on the Boardwalk. There is a freshwater pool for dipping.

The Jungle Cove Spa offers spa treatments in an outdoor setting. Coral stone walls divide the outdoor spa into three areas, all facing the bay. Enjoy a massage with watching distant Mount Rinjani, or a long soak under a shady tamarind tree.

Rates begin at 800.00 per night plus compulsory MAP. Travelers from United States or Europe usually fly via Singapore or Hong Kong. There are also domestic flights from the surrounding islands and ferry connections across the Flores Sea - 20762
