Attraction To Vintage Or Country Cars Is Still Strong

By Mika Smith

In the United States, country cars are also known as antique cars or vintage cars. By definition, these are cars that are 25 years old or more in time span. When it comes to the vehicle manufacturing process, the last decade has seen a huge technological leap. Cars have become part of our daily life also because they have been outfitted with a lot of gadgets such as CD players, DVDs, and more.

We now enjoy breathtaking technology in newer model cars and there is a tendency to look down or even totally overlook vintage cars. For example, in yesteryears, cars predominantly ran on gasoline, but today there are cars that run on water, electricity and even bio-fuels. These are called hybrid vehicles and are geared to take over the auto industry in the coming years. Cars also also solely made by robots today with minimal human interaction during the manufacturing process.

Cars now spot remote controlled interfaces, multi-heat systems that heat the front and the back seat at different temperatures, DVD/Blue-ray players, bars, pool machines and all more. But in spite of these advancements, there are still a lot of people who are loyal to country cars and who go to great lengths to look for them and buy them. So why are country cars still popular?

Firstly, they are man-made. We mentioned earlier than modern cars are mostly the products of robotic machines which populate the vehicle manufacturing plants in Japan, the US, China and Europe. These modern cars supposedly lack the "human touch" and are therefore regarded as cold and unsentimental. Because of the elimination of the human element in the manufacturing process, most cars are no longer made by hand. There are people who feel that anything made by hand holds more sentimental value and hence the fascination with vintage country cars.

Everything else including the packaging is done by machines. Country cars on the other hand, originated from an era where manufacturing plants were staffed solely by real humans and vehicle manufacture was an art. The people who worked in vehicle manufacturing plants had a passion for what they did and held their position with esteem. Because of this, there are many people today who feel that vintage cars had a touch of quality and dignity that lacks in modern cars.

Country cars also hold popularity because of their. Vehicles design has undergone a renaissance. This makes antique cars made 30 or more years ago almost unrecognizable as far as modern designs are concerned. This could be the case even though they are the exact same models.

The fact that vintage cars look radically different from their modern compatriots makes them very romantic. It is not uncommon to see vintage cars featured in blockbuster movies such as Grease, Terminator, Transformers and Blade. This is because they possess a rare look which turns heads as they pass. There is even a certain sex appeal associated with vintage/antique cars.

The only major drawback with vintage cars is that their parts can be hard to find. For vintage car owners in the United States and the EU, this may not necessarily be an issue but is can be if the owner lives in a different country where car parts are imported then there could be an issue (or the parts may be very costly). - 20762
