Trucking Insurance - Filing a Claim

By Steve Turner

The reason that we have Trucking Insurance coverage is for protection in situations of accidents and truck or personal damages. It is important for drivers to understand the process on how to file a claim and also what to do at the scene of an accident.

The claim process is really simple. After you file the claim with your insurance provider they will then send out an insurance adjuster that will assess the damages that incurred in the accident. Based upon their assessment payment will then be made to cover the expenses of damages and medical bills.

While the process is simple, there are a couple of things that drivers can do to help it move along smoothly. It is important for them to have five things readily at hand: their story, the stories of other drivers involved, the police report, eyewitness accounts, and information about the physical damage at the scene.

Following an accident the first thing that you should do is see if there is anyone in need of immediate medical attention. Call emergency services such as 911 if needed. While waiting provide any medical assistance that you are qualified to do so.

Requesting the other driver involved for their insurance card is important. The truck driver should obtain the other individual's name, phone number, license plane number, and insurance details.

The truck driver should call their insurance agent as soon as they can. The agent will be able to inform the driver what steps need to be taken next to help things move along smoothly. Information can also be given about the types of coverage that will be used in processing the claim.

An appointment with an insurance adjuster will be set up. The adjuster will estimate the value of the damage or losses incurred in the accident and then payment will be made to cover these expenses. - 20762
